Understanding student misconceptions

Eedi uses diagnostic questions to identify student misconceptions and provides targeted support to help resolve them πŸš€

As a teacher, you can view data from thousands of students who have previously answered questions, which is a great tool for planning lessons.

Once your students complete assignments, you can also view their individual and class-level misconception data to make informed next steps.

Viewing misconception data before assigning a quiz

Using Eedi’s historical data, you can plan your lessons to anticipate common mistakes and address them proactively. To see this:

  1. Go to your "Plan" page and click the "+ Set work" button.

  2. Find a topic quiz you want to use and click on it to see a preview.

  3. Click on any question to enlarge it, then select "Show answers".

  4. Select each answer option in the bar chart to see its explanation. This will reveal common misconceptions from thousands of students who have previously answered the question, allowing you to plan in advance.


Finding your students' misconception data

Once students complete a quiz, you'll have immediate access to their results and misconception data.

To see this:

  1. Go to your Check page.

  2. Click on the name of a quiz you'd like to view misconception data on.

The results table displays how your students performed in each question.

The student got the question correct and no misconceptions were identified.

A misconception was found and resolved after receiving feedback/completing lesson intervention.

A misconception was found and remains unresolved.

Question breakdown

If you click on an answer from a student, you can get an in-depth look into the question and misconception explanations, as well as the full journey students took when answering that question.


Resolving your students' remaining misconceptions

The Fix page allows you to specifically target misconceptions that Eedi wasn't able to resolve with your students. We'll surface these questions so that you have the opportunity to discuss as a class, or in smaller groups, ensuring that no student is left behind.

To find this:

  1. Navigate to your "Fix" page. Any quiz that has an unresolved misconception will appear in the list.

  2. Click on the name of a quiz you want to work on.

  3. Present the question to your students and ask them to vote for their answer.

  4. Once done, click "Show answers" to reveal the correct answer, along with your class' spread of answers.

  5. Close the presented question, then click "Resolve" next to the question to complete it.

  1. Click on the name of a quiz, then select the Fix tab.

  2. The top three questions with the most unresolved misconceptions will be highlighted.

  3. Click on a question to present it to your class for a discussion.

  4. After discussing the question, click on the bar chart to reveal your students' answers and see the most common misconceptions.

  5. Once you've addressed the misconception, you can mark it as resolved by clicking the tick box.
